AMERICAN ARTS

From Wikipedia...
American art encompasses the history of painting and visual art in the United States. In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, artists primarily painted landscapes and portraits in a realistic style. A parallel development taking shape in rural America was the American craft movement, which began as a reaction to the industrial revolution. Developments in modern art in Europe came to America from exhibitions in New York City such as the Armory Show in 1913. Previously American Artists had based the majority of their work on Western Painting and European Arts. After World War II, New York replaced Paris as the center of the art world. Since then many American Movements have shaped Modern and Post Modern art. Art in the United States today covers a huge range of styles.

GLOCALISATION
How to glocalise ? From what I know, based on explaination by Dr.Tan..my lecturer…glocalise means when we want to change something to suit our environment. For example, we want change the four seasons car, or non-country car to suit the environment in Malaysia. So that, the car has the function that we can benefits it in this country’s weather.
How to live our way of life ? We want live in a comfortable and enjoyable live. But, how? Everyone have their own way to have a better life. People want their life comfort and meaningful. Then, people have idea to change something to comfort and to using the things according to their life.
How to excel among the elites ? Truly, I does know what the meaning of this sentences. but, as I know to excel ourself among the elites, we have the way that can help us. To show ourself among the elites, we have to improves ourself to make us, have the same level with the elites…but, truly, we have to be ourself and not pretending to be somebody else to achieve the same level as elites.

UNDERSTANDING FORM & MEANING

FORM
Known as the visible shape or configuration of something. For examples, style, design and arrangement in an artistic work as distinct from its content. Besides that, form is a type or variety of something. For example, an artistic or literary genre. Form also a particular way in which a thing exists or appears. For Examples, philosophy  the essential nature of a species or thing, especially ( in Plato's thought ) regarded as an abstract ideal which real things imitate or participate in.
Plato - the idealist Platonic thinking :

   idea - CAT = form
   things - imperfect instances of the CAT...cat A,cat B,cat C....
images - artworks of cat = copies of a cat

MEANING
What is meant by a word, text, concept, or action. Mean : intend to convey or refer to ( a particular thing ).

From what i study in this topic, i have to related the principles of pleasure in design to my term paper writing. My  tittle of term paper writing is argument on aesthetic evaluation of traditional method in hand drawn batik made by Noor Arfa Batik factory in Kuala Terengganu comparing with Penang Batik factory sdn. bhd. in Pulau Pinang. This is my abstract of my term paper :
ABSTRACT :

Hand drawn batik is a traditional method that manifests multi-colored design. Nevertheless, many people do not know what hand drawn batik actually is, and how the batik can be made using this technique. Despite many people know how to appreciate the beauty of  hand drawn batik, particularly the original drawing created by the artists in this industry. In fact, there is a way on how to know deeply and better about hand drawn batik. Which is, by studying the batik making technique used in Noor Arfa Batik Factory in Kuala Terengganu, which is an integration of the craftmen’s, idea, imagination and creativity. Then, comparing with another company, Penang Batik Factory Sdn. Bhd in Pulau Pinang. Online research approaches, such as blogging, and Wikipedia were used concurrent with other reference materials. Including books, and magazines about Noor Arfa Batik and Penang Batik factory. Also, the hand drawn batik technique to establish the main information structure about this topic. As we know, hand drawn batik is one of traditional media that using traditional method. Aesthetic evaluation of traditional  method in hand drawn batik was conducted by the evaluation of techniques to making this media. After decided to choose this topic as my term paper title, I started to study and collect information on this topic. This topic was chosen because I intend to construct in depth-knowledge on hand drawn batik. Apart from making analysis and analogy, I have written my own opinion about this topic.

THE PLEASURE IN DESIGN :
Occurs when human beings achieve their aims by altering or changing subjective world.
—i.e. achieving the unity by matching the regularity of nature with individual objectives.
—Four general principles (suggested by Hekkert, 2006)
1) —Maximum effect for minimum means
2) —Unity in variety
3) —Most advanced, yet acceptable
4) —Congruence / appropriateness
In my term paper, i write the term paper by using the guard of my lecturer notes. Which is i have the tittle,
concise of summary of the main focus. Then, the abstract which concise of summary of the report. Introduction,
the purpose and background of my study : my reactions to what i have read. Literature review, methodology, my
result of study, then the discussion. I have to write the conclusions of my study. This are what i need to do for my
term paper. It is related with the pleasure in design because i have to design first, what i want to do first, next and
lastly to complete my term paper writing.

EVALUATION OF AESTHETICS

as we know, aesthetics is one of the dimensions of design. aesthetics is the science that explains the beauty, of how beauty can form and how to feel it. for me, aesthetics is a branch that very close to the philosophy of art. without aesthetics, we cannot judge the value of art and beauty.

EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT OF BEAUTY

people will judge and assess beauty from his own perspective. there is nothing wrong with their judgement and assessment because everyone has their own characteristics to judge beauty. for me,evaluate or assess beauty as a positive value and more prefer with ipsative assessment which is, an individual assessment that is compared to himself, herself,or itself through time.
